CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA (MPG) – The Dixon High School boy’s volleyball team won its 13th match in a row Tuesday night, winning road games in back-to-back days.
The Rams (14-1, 9-0 Golden Empire League) were victorious at Casa Roble (6-8, 5-4) on Monday night 3-2 and at Mesa Verde (12-12, 5-3) on Tuesday 3-0. With the wins, Dixon remained unbeaten in league play.
In a battle of the Rams played in Orangevale, Casa Roble pushed Dixon to its limit. For the first time since March 15 against Davis, the Rams conceded a set to their opponent. In fact, they lost two after not giving up even one for nine straight games and all season to league opponents. Casa came out aggressive and determined to pull off the upset and snap Dixon’s winning streak Monday, winning each of the first two sets by a tight margin of 25-22.

However, Dixon refused to go down without a fight, prevailing in a tough third set 25-21. After recapturing the momentum by staying alive in the match, Dixon cruised to a fourth set victory 25-14 and in the decisive final set, 15-6.
The Rams from Dixon returned to their dominant ways Tuesday in Citrus Heights, taking all three sets and sweeping the Mesa Verde Mavericks. Dixon got in a slug fest with Mesa Verde in the first set, needing extra time to secure the set point 27-25. The Rams decisively won the second and third sets, 25-19 and 25-17 respectively.
Dixon has already clinched the Golden Empire League title, leading the second place Mavericks by three and a half games in the standings. The numbers don’t lie when it comes to the Rams’ dominance in league play. Dixon has lost two sets to league opponents all season. The next closest team are the Mavericks who have lost 11, however, six of them have been to the Rams.

The regular season for Dixon comes to an end Wednesday night at home against Pioneer (1-13, 1-7) at 6 P.M. Make sure to arrive early if you’d like to catch the Senior Night festivities. The team is senior-heavy as nine of the 14 players on the roster are in the Class of 2022.
The Patriots have lost nine games in a row, so the storyline of the match will be the battle of the streaks. Will one come to an end? Visit independentvoice.com for more Dixon sports coverage.
