DIXON, CA (MPG) - The community of Dixon has had the support of the Dixon Lions Club for 70 years and will continue to for many more years to come. They are an organization that works to improve the quality of life and business in the city of Dixon.

“The overall goal of the Lions Club is to make Dixon a better place to live,” said Chris Dage who has been a member for eight years. The members of the Lions Club each make an effort to support the community of Dixon and better the lives of people who are living in it by funding families, students, and administrations in need.

The Dixon Lions Club meets on the first and third Wednesday of every month at a multitude of different local restaurants. Currently, standing meetings are held at Bud’s Pub and Grill on 1st Street.

Each member of the Lions Club takes on a nearly equal number of responsibilities, for it is everyone in the club’s job to keep it running. Although fundraisers are typically “hosted” by individual members, every member works to assist in the process of running and planning an event. To become a member, you must be recommended by an existing member. There are currently around 32 Dixon members.

“To become a Lion, you must be a good standing citizen,” Dage mentioned. “We’re always looking for more members.”

Businesses or schools in need can request support or donations from the Lions and its members will help by doing things such as having fundraising functions, volunteering to help out or simply donating money to subsidize them. Students in local Dixon schools are also profiting from the deeds that the organization makes.

Young students have the ability to benefit from the club’s volunteer eye screenings in schools, all free of charge.

Organizations such as this club are vital parts in the community of Dixon, whether individuals acknowledge all that is being done for them by club members, or volunteers who are making charitable contributions, or simply just donating their time.

It is a privilege to be able to have the support from service clubs. Volunteer hours and earnings that have been brought in from previous fundraising events have gone to around 40 different businesses and administrations, and 30-plus of those establishments support Dixon’s youth and schools.

All funds brought in due to fundraising and other events are purely used to finance any local establishments that have requested support. Since the club’s inception on April 4, 1954, there have been hundreds of events hosted by the Dixon Lions Club, all to support local businesses and more.

As the Dixon Lions Club celebrates its 70th year, the community of Dixon is thankful for the support they have brought to Dixon’s residents. Without organizations such as the Lions Club, Dixon would not be the city it is today.
