Nominate Solano County Female Leaders for Recognition at Upcoming Women Leadership Gala
Jul 17, 2024 12:25PM ● By Solano Commission for Women and Girls News ReleaseSOLANO COUNTY, CA (MPG) - The Friends of the Solano Commission for Women and Girls (FSCWG) and the Solano Commission for Women and Girls (SCWG) are seeking nominees to be recognized at their Women Leadership Gala, which will be held on Friday, Oct. 18 at the Bella Verdi Rancho Solano Golf Course.
The celebratory event will also commemorate the sixth anniversary of the Solano Commission for Women and Girls. To mark this milestone, the Friends and Solano Commission for Women and Girls will recognize five deserving Solano County women leaders and celebrate that evening with the honorees, elected officials, VIPs, and community leaders. Each of the five honorees will be presented with the Woman of the Year award.
The Friends is the financial arm of the Solano Commission for Women and Girls and in partnership, both organizations are collaborating on the fundraising event as donations will finance several core programs and projects to benefit underserved women, girls, and families in Solano County.
“Our organizing committee is excited to mark such an amazing milestone in the history of Solano County as we will celebrate the sixth anniversary of the Solano Commission for Women and Girls,” said Jacqui Nguyen, chair of the Women Leadership Gala. “As a commissioner, I am so proud of our many accomplishments and since our inception in 2018, we have worked tirelessly to uplift the lives of women and girls in Solano County and will continue to build on our work. We hope the community will support our efforts and see the value of the work that we put in to help those in need.”

The Solano Commission for Women and Girls is not funded with tax dollars, but rather through the generous donations from the community. The fundraising event will allow the commissioners to continue their work. Below is a list of projects that are supported by Solano Commission for Women and Girls and the Friends.
Women and Money Conference
This is a partnership with financial professionals that presents interactive workshops to provide critical financial knowledge for women and girls of all ages.
You Matter. Period
A menstrual hygiene project that addresses a major issue faced by unhoused women in Solano County who lack critical menstrual hygiene products. Solano Commission for Women and Girls has partnered with Touro University School of Medicine’s Chapter of the American Medical Women’s Association to organize this program. In the past year, more than 200 packets were distributed.
Birth Justice, Maternal Care, and Birth Rights for Women of Color
In Solano County, Black and Latina women infant mortality rates are 5.6% higher than those of White women so Solano Commission for Women and Girls’ one-day workshop serves to provide resources and information available to assist with healthy birth outcomes.
