DIXON, CA (MPG) - “To learn from your mistakes and triumph” and “teamwork is about understanding each other and empathizing with each other in order to understand other points of views” are just a couple of insightful aspects Savannah Coggins has learned from her parents, teachers and involvement in Girl Scouts and other local activities.
Coggins is Soroptimist International of Dixon’s Young Woman of the Month. She was nominated and presented by Scott Nelson, a Dixon High School social science teacher who has taught Coggins since her sophomore year. Nelson has always appreciated Coggins’s contributions to philosophical discussions and how she is not afraid to have “adult type” discussions.
Coggins is the daughter of Bradley and Chantel Coggins and has lived in Dixon her entire life. She thanks her parents for teaching her valuable life skills such as “rising up” when rejected, making wise decisions in life and to love and not reject. As a confident young woman, Coggins attributes her confidence to participating in drama, initially participating in a production in fourth-grade through Tremont School and then holding a lead role in “Macbeth” her freshman year in high school.
Outgoing and confident, she was encouraged to participate in cheer and has stayed in cheer for the last three years. Coggins was initially inspired by her coach to trust her teammates and herself as she “learned to fly.” She continues to love the support of the crowds, including her mother and grandmother who have supported her at all the games. Although Coggins suffered a serious injury this year, she continues to cheer.
Coggins’s immediate goal is to attend community college and study business with a focus on marketing, then transfer to a four-year college to continue this route. She eventually wants to be a real estate agent.
Soroptimist International of Dixon members wish Coggins the best in her future pursuits.
