SOLANO COUNTY, CA (MPG) - Solano College Theatre (SCT) is pleased to announce its spring musical, Head Over Heels, directed by Solano College Theatre’s Artistic Director Christine Mani.
“I want to reflect the world our students are living in, which somehow is best depicted through a show set in a mystical fantasy mashup of the ‘80s and the Renaissance,” said Mani.
Head Over Heels is a delightful laugh-out-loud love story set to the music of the iconic 1980’s all-female rock band The Go-Go’s, including the hit songs, “We Got the Beat,” “Our Lips Are Sealed,” and “Vacation.” A modern musical fairy tale where once-upon-a-time is right now, it follows the escapades of a royal family who set out on a journey to save their beloved kingdom from extinction.
“This show powerfully packs in inclusivity by embracing non-binary characters, same-sex couples, and a recognition of the love that may exist right in front of our faces,” said Mani. “At the same time, it gets us dancing and singing in our seats. What’s not to love?”
Leilani Lobo will play Queen Gynecia. A performer at heart, Lobo has spent several years behind the scenes as a stage manager for Solano College Theatre. William Schmidt, who plays opposite Lobo as King Basilius, has performed in several Solano College Theatre productions, and worked as a lighting designer for shows including Alice in Wonderland (2023) and No Exit, which opens this May at Solano College Theatre.
Head Over Heels is directed by Christine Mani, with choreography by Liz Andrews, and musical direction by Michael Reilly. The design team includes Liesl Seitz-Buchbinder (Costume Design), Mitchell Ost (Set Design), Carrie Mullen (Lighting Design), Ray Archie (Sound Design), and Darcia Tipton (Properties Design). It runs April 4-27 with Friday and Saturday shows at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2:00 p.m.
On April 19, Solano College Theatre will host a pop-up Renaissance Faire from 2 to 6 p.m. outside the theatre building. There will be a Thursday evening pay-what-you-can show on April 24 at 7:30 p.m. The Friday, April 25 performance will be ASL interpreted by students in the Solano Community College ASL Interpreting program. Solano College Theatre is ADA accessible.
