SOLANO COUNTY, CA (MPG) – Celebrate Earth Day by keeping Solano County “clean and green.” Volunteers are encouraged to unite on Saturday, April 26 for Solano County’s 11th Annual Earth Day Cleanup. Residents, students, clubs, organizations, and businesses can choose from eleven sites across the county with at least one located in each city.

It is estimated that about 80 percent of ocean trash originates from land-based sources; these include plastics, cigarette butts, foam products, paper, and recyclable beverage containers. Often, these pollutants enter the local storm drains that lead to creeks, rivers, and ultimately, the sea. Every piece of trash picked up and every beverage container recycled does make a difference.

Most cleanup events will take place in the morning, typically from 9 a.m. to noon. Detailed information about the time and location of each Earth Day Cleanup, as well as future cleanup events, is available at cleanupsolano.org.

“In just a few hours, volunteers can effectively remove thousands of pounds of trash and recyclables from our community parks, trails, roadsides, and waterways” says Marianne Butler with Solano Resource Conservation District.

Earth Day Cleanup volunteers are encouraged to bring their own buckets and gloves to minimize waste. Site organizers will provide supplies for those who need them. Participants can also utilize the Ocean Conservancy’s CleanSwell mobile app to record the number of items collected at their cleanup site, contributing to valuable research on trash removal efforts.

The 2025 Solano County Earth Day Cleanup is coordinated by Solano Resource Conservation District in partnership with the County of Solano, Sierra Club Solano Group, Sprouts Farmers Market in Vacaville, the Solano Center for Volunteer and Non-Profit Leadership, 95.3 KUIC, Grizzly Waters Kayaking, and the California Coastal Commission, Solano County Parks, Fairfield-Suisun Sewer District, Vallejo Watershed Alliance, Vallejo Flood and Wastewater District, City of Benicia, City of Dixon, City of Vacaville, Solano Land Trust, and volunteer site leaders.
