Dixon Public Library Announces Summer Reading Program Details

This summer consider signing your child or teen up for one of the fun and educational summer reading programs at the Dixon Public Library. All of the programs at the library are completely free and designed to support your child’s literacy needs and prevent summer learning loss.
This summer the theme is “Every Hero Has a Story” and it’s all about superheroes and everyday heroes in our community!Online pre-registration for all summer programs begins starting Thursday, June 4 at www.dixonlibrary.com. In-person registration and the official first day is Monday, June 8 starting at 11am.
The library is offering three developmentally appropriate programs this year. By far, the most popular program is the Children’s Summer Reading Program, which serves children age 6 – 12.
To participate in this program children register, set a personal reading goal for the summer, and can return once a week for eight weeks to collect prizes for reading.
At the end of the eight weeks children can attend a party on Friday, July 31 in the Women’s Improvement Park where they can get a free book, free food, face painting, and a show with Mad Science of Sacramento Valley.
There is a raffle drawing too in which the lucky runner-up can win a family four-pack of River Cats tickets and the grand prize winner can win a $300 dollar gift-certificate to Fisk’s Cyclery.
In conjunction with the Children’s Summer Reading Program there is a free program every week on Thursday mornings at 10 am at the library. The program schedule is as follows:
Thursday, June 11 at 10 am – Dale Lorzo Magic Show, all ages
Thursday, June 18 at 10 am – Peter Apel Family Music, all ages

This program supports the skills that infants, toddlers, and preschoolers need to develop before kindergarten. When you register your child, he or she will receive a free book. Parent and care-givers then complete 20 literacy activities together to earn another prize.
Teens, age 13 – 18, can register for the “Unmasked” Teen Summer Reading Program. They can read eight books and complete eight book review bookmarks to earn a $10 gift certificate to Brenden Theatre!
