Dixon School Kids Will Get Help from Kiwanis & Walmart

Help from Kiwanis and Walmart

Walmart and Kiwanis Club of Dixon converge together to make sure the kids get their school supplies. Bring the kids and come on down to Walmart on Saturday, at the Grocery entrance of Walmart from 10 to 2:00 PM where the Walmart Community Director, Jackie Bell and the Kiwanis President, Suzanne Lorente bring their teams to work side by side, getting the kids set up for starting school! Great teams!! “Stuff the Bus” with School Supplies

Dixon students are getting ready for a new school year – but Principals already know many teachers and kids will be short of classroom supplies.

To meet that need, Dixon Kiwanis Club is inviting the public to participate in their “Stuff the Bus” program this Saturday, August 10 from 10 am to 2 pm at the Dixon Walmart Grocery Center entrance.

“There was a teacher in line who was stocking up on school supplies that one of our Kiwanis members spoke with. The teacher told her the purchase was out of her own pocket for her students who wouldn’t be able to bring in supplies,” said Kiwanis member Marge Litsinger who heads up the Stuff the Bus effort.

“We’ve discovered there is a need that we can help with and we invite other citizens to help, too,” Litsinger said.

Wal-Mart has set up an aisle of discounted school supplies next to their stationary department for customers to purchase items and bring out to the “school bus booth”’ outside the Garden Department.

Those donated supplies will augment the large donation by Walmart, which was arranged through Community Director Jackie Bell, and added to the supplies purchased by Kiwanis Club.

Other Dixon Kiwanis Club volunteers will be working to match supplies to the lists provided by teachers at Anderson Elementary School, Gretchen Higgins Elementary School, and Tremont Elementary School Dixon Montessori. After the event, school volunteers will distribute supplies back to the classroom.

Kiwanis has the principle core mission to enhance a community by helping its children. When you give a child a chance to learn, experience, dream, and succeed, great things will happen, is the Kiwanis belief.

Club President Suzanne Lorente will be on hand to answer questions and provide thank you receipts with the Kiwanis tax-deductible identification number for contributors. The Dixon Walmart is located at 235 E. Dorset Drive. For more information, call Lorente at (707) 678-6079.
