On Sunday, December 14, the Dixon United Methodist Church will present The Christmas Light by Benjamin Harlan. The cantata will be presented twice on that day. The first presentation will be in the morning during the 10 a.m. worship service. The second presentation will be at 7 pm. Both presentations are open to the public.
Through music, narration and scripture, The Christmas Lightfollows the age-old journey to Bethlehem. It begins with God’s people rejoicing in hope as they heard the Old Testament prophets foretell the Messiah’s birth. The journey continues in the announcement to Mary that she would give birth to God’s Son. The celebration in Bethlehem includes shepherds, angels, wise men, and the Holy Family.
The Christmas Light offers a beautiful setting of the Christmas story. The cantata will be directed by Erin Brothers and will be accompanied on the piano by Russell Fry. In addition to members of the Dixon United Methodist Church choir, singers from Dixon and the Sacramento area will join the chorus.
The evening presentation of the cantata will include performances by the church’s Handbell Choir and Kids Choir.
Admission to the cantata is free. There is limited seating, so plan to arrive early.
