Nikki Talken of Dixon has received the Lynne Burns Memorial 4-H scholarships for her leadership and achievements in the Solano County 4-H Youth Development Program.
The scholarship, sponsored by Solano County 4-H Leaders Council, memorializes Lynne Burns of Rio Vista, a nine-year Solano County 4-H Program Representative who died of cancer on November 17, 1995. Applicants must hold at least a gold star rank, have a 3.0 g.p.a., obtain several recommendations, and write an essay as well as sit for an interview.
Nikki is a graduate of Dixon High School and has been in 4-H since 5 years of age. Most of her membership years have been involved with Roving Clovers 4-H Club of Dixon. She carries a passion for animals and has competed annually at local fairs as well as the California State Fair. Nikki has been a club officer for the past seven years, including club president for the past two year. Nikki has acquired animal husbandry skills thanks to 4-H and credits her 4-H involvement with her drive to become a veterinarian. She will be attending Sacramento City College in the fall before transferring to UC Davis to major in Animal Science before applying to Veterinary School.
